Today we created graphic organizers that demonstrated the interconnectedness of species living in an ecosystem. We said that any change in one of those populations can cause large scale changes in the remainder of the population. To put it into context, we discussed the changing Great Lakes and how there are many invasive species that are damaging the balance of these fragile ecosystems. If you want to learn more about the sea lamprey which we examined in class click here. This is a great, and short, document on how the sea lamprey ended up here and what they are doing to our Great Lakes.
The picture above shows two sea lamprey that have attached themselves to a fish. They will then feed on the fluids of the fish, often killing it.
